Fiorella's her new computer won't let her save revisions, and her cell camera won't let her transfer photos onto Facebook. Now do you see why she doesn't trust electronics?
*
It's offical--the daddy-long-legs spiders adore us, but it's not as cute as it sounds. They've built huge colonies on the ceiling and down the walls of the front porch.
*
If Trump is such a germaphobe, how come he was all over KJU?
*
What happened to that "cut" that Fiorella tried to transfer? Is la computadora working against Fio again? It only makes sense because, all of a sudden, the camera in her phone has revived itself. Apparently, Fio is allowed only one working electronic device at a time.
*
Fiorella is hoping the next big advance in IT technology is a self-feeding computer. She's tired of carrying an awkward roll of power cord with her when she has to go upstairs or move into another room.

Confessions of Depression
Pulling my past out of overloaded shelves and drawers is like pulling out my guts. It's the good, the bad, the ugly--the things I wanted to remember but had forgotten, the things I wanted to forget, but now remember.
*
I'd knock over a bank if I could get away with it. Money makes the world go 'round, and I want some of it. In fact, I want a lot of it. I want to pay off my kid's student loans and set him and his family up in a house of their own, and I want to make repairs around my own house and, yes, I want to buy those expensive orthotics for my aching feet and get some Juvederm on the side so I'll look really good when I attend my family reunion.
*
I want to use my GPS, but don't know how to. A woman at my doctor's office was going to show me, but not realizing a cell phone was necessary, I hadn't come equipped.
*
Going through the stacks of papers in my office, I found a spiral notebook from years ago in which I had recorded about three weeks worth of dreams, dreams in which I was belittled, berated, ignored, or deserted. Dreams in which I finally realized I had to go it alone.
*
I also discovered a complete copy of one of my first novels, The Virgin Vampire. It was never in the book stores, of course, because back then one had to have an agent and a publisher, and I had no idea how to attract either one. I love my story, but now the story is thirty years out of date. Maybe I'll ask that the manuscript be included in my grave goods.

What's Up With Fiorella
You may have noticed that yesterday's poem went through two modifications before Fio was satisfied with it, That's how it goes--anything Fiorella writes or paints is subject to revision until she gets it right. But why does Fio rhyme so much, you ask. Because rhymes are always whirling around in her head like a swarm of demented fireflies--buys/size/lies/tries/dies/guys/highs/pies/rise/ties/thighs/ies/wise/
shies/stys/guise. And then there are the half-rhymes....
*
The elctronic world has passed Fiorella by. She writes on una computadora, uses email, and knows how to text, but that's it. On the other hand, she can also write longhand, use a landline, communicate by letter, and even start a fire without turning on the gas, so maybe she'll survive in a hut out in the woods somewhere.
*
The ecoles must have closed down for summer vacation because France, which bolstered Fiorella's readership to flatteringly high numbers, has deserted her again. You know Fio's theory--that English professeurs are using her blog to illustrate Ameican colloquialisms.
*
The end of La Piloto is near. The villains have been winnowed down to Yolanda's former lover, his current girlfriend, the crazed colonel, la bruja, and a crew of disposible extras. No dramatic death scenes like the ones in El Color de la Pasion, though. Just bang, bang---you're dead.
*
The temperatures are climbing here in central Texas. It's going to be a 100-degree week so think cooling thoughts in Fio's direction. She was not born for hot weather. Remember her genealogy.

Fiver Again
Fiorella awoke this morning with her inborn rhyming machine going full blast. Watch out, world! WordS that hiSS are Swords!
*
Minnesota son is coming to town tomorrow, and Fio will dump her electronic problems in his capable hands. He not only understands the digital world, but explains it well and, most important, is patient.
*
Weekends are hard for Fio because she misses her telenovelas. Yes, two of them, La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo as well as La Piloto. OMG, she's addicted!
*
Fio was born limber. Not athletic, but limber, even in her hands. Thus it amuses her, when she is in the hospital, to slip the plastic ID tag up off her wrist. (Fio is also easily amused.)
*
The family is going DNA crazy. It started with nephew Barrett and his wife, who infected Fio and Husband, then moved on to Minnesota son, and now has spread to Daughter and Austin son. But, truth to tell, it's more an indulgent novelty than anything else. A person is not defined by his lineage, but what he says and does on his own..

Overkill
Dear Diary:
I had a wonderful time yesterday at my church art show, in which I had placed four drawings and two of Austin son's works. There were only about ten of us there, mostly the artists, but that was okay because church members had been visiting the showing for about a month and it was a show, not a sale. All the artists were called upon to talk about our art, which, of course, me being me, I was only too glad to do, and now I feel guilty because I think I overdid it. Oh, Fiorella, will you ever learn to keep your mouth shut?
PS: If I could remember how to post a pic, I'd let you see the drawings I put on show, but my talent is art, not electronics.

Computers in Command
In this electronic era, when the computer commands everyone's life, Fiorella feels the need to connect with tangible reality, to pick up rocks in her hands, to construct her own holiday decorations with scissors and ribbons, to start a fire in the fireplace with rotten wood.
And she wonders. Are we getting too far ahead of ourselves? Do we have too many apps on our phones? Are we are too dependent on our gadgets? Are the electronics are controlling us rather than us controlling them?
Think about it.

Left at the Station
Fiorella, who is electronically challenged, has accidentally done something to her blog that has made her message squeeze up into top of the screen on her draft, which means she'll have to make a quick trip to Click Computer Repair this morning. Maybe after that, she can find someone who can help her get her new Blue Tooth and FitBit up and running.
Yes, faithful readers, Fiorella is an artist, a writer, a linguist, and a lover of rocks, but she is not an electronicist.

Current Issues
Instead of devoting her day to writing yesterday, Fio devoted it to another hospital visit and her baby car, whose battery died at the hospital (irony), leaving Fio and Husband stranded. But all's well that ends well, and by the end of the day, everyone and everything was shipshape again.
It looks like the electronic underpinning of the country is shipshape again too--until the next time.
Such a frail system to live by. Fio has long warned that God may decide to turn off the electricity, but it never dawned on her that technology could be manipulated to turn upon itself. A deeper concern is why do people do things like this, deliberately destroy.

Minnesota Son's Birthday
Today is the birthday of Fiorella's oldest child, and Fio can't help but reminisce a little. Minnesota Son was a big baby, just over ten pounds, with black hair and blue eyes, and, as the nurses had said, exceptionally pretty for a newborn.
The dark hair soon fell out, and medium brown hair came in at about the same time the blue eyes turned brown. Fio's brown-eyed mother was thrilled. She held Son in her arms and, with her blue-eyed daughter standing beside her, said, "I think dark eyes look more intelligent."
Son was a good baby and slept through the night so early that it scared Fio the first time. He was an early walker too, but the talking came late, probably because, as Husband and Fio finally discovered, he needed tubes in his ears.
He was a very active child, learning to ride a two-wheel bike when he was three, and he loved playgrounds--always trying to figure out how things worked, like when he hunched down and peered at the motor under the merry-go-round. Later on, he learned how to fix anything mechanical, and now he can take on anything electronic.
He's good with animals and was always musical, a talent that has blossomed through the years, as has his art. And he has a great speaking voice and vocabulary and uses good grammar.
But most important, Son has a good heart and loves his wife, his family, and his God.
Fiorella is blessed.

Electronic Revenge
Fiorella publicized her current computer problems on Facebook, saying she must be somehow antagonizing the electronics and guess what--it turns out there are people out there who really do have something in their blood or bones or soft tissue or whatever (brain waves?) that DOES mess up computers or make watches stop running. But what sort of doctor does Fio go to in order to get herself tested?

Found Out
When Fiorella's electronically-savvy friend moves her fingers on the keyboard in what looks like a random manner, wondrous things occur. But when Fio moves her fingers in her own random manner, chaos occurs. Her only explanation is that the computer senses her essential Ludditeness and retaliates in kind.

What Will Happen When God Cuts off the Electricity?
Fiorella has long been concerned about our increasing dependence on electronics, and earlier this month, she was the victim of it. Her credit card was hacked and she misplaced her car keys, Mastercard thwarted the baddies and sent her a new card, and Mazda leapt into action and reprogrammed a new key for her, but it all took time--and Mazda cost money too.
We are all vulnerable. What if Isis figures out how to shut us down? How would we manage to drive our cars without pushing buttons? How would we light out homes without flipping a switch? How would we communicate with each other over the miles? How would we cook our meals?
It's back to the cave man days, people. Thank God for Boy Scouts.

New Skills
Fiorella has expanded her repertoire. She now knows how to send photos from her cell phone to email and Facebook. For instance:
Sonia Dog is checking up on her peops.

Balance
Is it Tuesday already?
Fio's been far too busy, as usual. Husband is sickish and the new-shelves-in-the-den debacle has not yet been settled.
The good news is that Minnesota Son rewired all the electronics in the den and helped his father find a replacement recliner, that Fio's finally broken through the mid-story block that's had her writing and rewriting WHEN THE HEART SPEAKS for a month, that, at her request, Husband hid the remainder of the Halloween candy where she could never find it (she looked), and that the weather has turned, which means that Fio has to pull on a jacket when she goes outside to haul in fallen tree limbs, chainsaw cedar, lay flagstones, or walk up to the road to get the mail.
All in all, it balances out

Up, Up, and Away!
Step by step, Fiorella is catching up with ten lost years of electronics. After some initial help from friend Claire, she was able to arrange her desktop icons the way she wants them. And Austin Son taught her how to move photos from her desktop onto Facebook while Minnesota Son and Wife taught her how to text, which Daughter and Austin Son tested her out on. And now Fio's advanced to writing daily comments on Facebook and is determined to figure out how Twitter works. She also has it in mind to reactivate her author webpage. And Husband has marked the cord on the router that she needs to pull out, then reconnect when her computer goes offline.
Brave new world, clear the way! Fiorella is in her ascendancy!

Quick Snippets
Fiorella is in a tizzy trying to prepare for the Romance Writers of America conference in New York. First off, she has to find a nice dress for the Saturday night awards ceremony. Yes, we all dress up like we're attending Cinderella's ball. It's our own fantasy because we spend our real lives in jeans and T-shirts.
*
Several people have explained various electronic gadgets to Fio, but she has to work with then herself to understand them. Yes, this monkey can't just see--she has to do. Daughter would label her a kinesthetic learner.
*
Fio decided to check back through the revisions she'd made and nearly died. She'll have to revise the revisions.

Promotion
Fiorella is overwhelmed again. It isn't just the house or the yard or the writing. It's the literary promotion. Everywhere Fiorella looks, people are advocating self-promotion, which Fio does NOT want to do. One reason she held out for an agent and a publisher was so that she would write, write, write her stories, and OTHER people could sell, sell, sell them. Besides, she was blessed with many talents and skills, but NOT electronics!
Yes, your Fio has a blog, email, and Facebook, but that's it--no Pinterest, no Instagram, no Twitter, no WODDL, no Buffer, no Street Team, no give-aways, Definitely a dinosaur.

Annihilating Rats
The first thing Fiorella does when she comes downstairs every morning is attend to the rat-killin', the electronic necessities that have to be be dealt with before she can embark on the grand scheme of the day. She starts with Google news, moves on to Blogspot to be sure her entry printed and is semi-coherent, lingers on Facebook to catch up with raves, ranks, and her own timeline, and then spends a fair amount of time on email.
And the reason she used the term "rat killin'" is that she's practicing it for dialogue in WHERE THE HEART LEADS.

News Flashes
Okay, now a man in wee little Georgetown has been exposed to Ebola. It's all matter of time.
*
Fio and Husband had their rock-gathering expedition in the west yard interrupted by an army of wicked-looking little black ants that gushed out of the ground and stung like hell. We were totally routed.
*
We have all these wonderful electronic means of communication--email, FaceBook, Google--and they all go down the drain at the slightest hint of a thunderstorm. Nature will prevail.

Biblical Adjustment
"How ya doin' today, Eve," the serpent said. "Everything's been the same for eons and I bet you're sorta bored. Need something new? Just take a bite of this apple and see what happens." And she did and got tossed out of Eden and had kids, and died, which leads us to Fio's topic for the day: change, the two-edged sword.
The biggest change during Fio's lifetime so far has been the development of electronics They've taken over the world, but they keep letting us down. Given all the trouble Fio has had with her computer, the internet, and the television lately, is it any wonder the government had problems rolling out Obmacare?
