You can't gather that much tinder without starting a fire, and the Republicans are blazing right now, in full-fledged war with each other. In fact, Fio's alt-right FB "friends" are speculating that Paul Ryan lied when he reported the vote tally, that Trumpcare really won the day. Next we'll be hearing about the child sex-ring Ryan has in his basement.
Put on your tin-foil caps, people. We've got a long ride ahead.

Holiday Hysteria
Each political party has its loons--the Republicans have Trump and the Democrats have Sanders. Trump bellows and Sanders froths. Fiorella hopes they'll both give it a rest for the next two weeks, and let us all enjoy the holidays, although Fio's life is still wrought. She hasn't received the financial settlement yet in re the scamming handyman, and that home refinancing, which was signed sealed, and delivered weeks ago, is still rearing its ugly head in the form of a letter claiming she hadn't submitted proof of insurance, which she darn well had, but now Fio can't find a copy of the letter or the insurance declaration page. In fact, in the pre-Christmas melee, it's hard for her to find anything.
Ah, well. There's always chocolate.

Political Advice
Dear Republican Hopefuls:
A word of advice. Do not take on Donald Trump. He will pull you down to his own level, drowning you in a swamp of egotistical bombast and unfounded assertions. Your best bet is to ignore him. His idiocy will run his course.
Sincerely yours,
A Democrat who believes in a strong two-party system

Gubernatorial Election Considerations
Fiorella is opposed to abortion, but she does not think it should be a political football. She resents both parties drawing the line, Republicans trying to round up votes by campaigning against abortion and Democrats trying to round up votes by calling it a women's issue. Fio will vote the Democratic ticket because she wants Texas to have a strong TWO-party system, not because Wendy Davis won her over by being pro-abortion.

Cruz Control
Now that the Senate Republicans have turned on their Cruz control, can we get on with real government instead of political posturing? Fiorella believes in a two-party system and she thinks everyone should have his say, but she doesn't like it when the drain gets clogged and the plumbing stops working for harrowing days on end.
Thank you, Boehner and Cornyn, for flushing out the tubes.

Just Messin' with You, Guy
Fiorella has a theory about the vicissitudes of the Republican political polls. She thinks the Iowans were sick and tired of being questioned every time they turned around and started giving the most preposterous answers they could think of just to have a little fun. How else can you explain the rise and fall of Bachmann, Perry, Cain, Gingrich, and Paul? And if Santorum is on the rise, can Huntsman be far behind?
The situation reminds Fio of when she got tired of receiving a string of slanted questionnaires from a far-right think tank--which wasn't too bright because it assumed her serving as a local Democratic precinct chairman meant she was a deep-water conservative. One can only resist temptation for so long, and Fio finally filled out one of the forms. Yes, she was in favor of destroying the economy for the sake of the environment. Yes, she opposed our Constitutional right to bear arms of any kind, even squirt guns, sling shots, and watermelon seeds. Yes, she was in favor of making Islam the national religion.
She'd like to tell you she never heard from the so-called think tank again, but apparently the only thing that mattered was whether or not she'd included a check, and, since she hadn't, she kept on receiving questionnaires. Now she just tosses them.
Which is maybe what the Republicans should have done with the Iowa polls.

Bachmann, Palin, and Perry
The Iowa straw poll has demonstrated its irrelevancy for the second electoral season in a row. Four years ago it ranked Mitt Romney at the top of Republican voter selection and John McCain tenth. This year, Michele Bachmann placed first, but Fio just doesn't think she's gonna pan out.
Speaking of not panning out, Fio notices that Sarah Palin's star is fading fast. Wonder how much she can get for that tour bus on resale? Maybe Rick Perry could buy it and travel around the country putting on tent revivals.
Speaking of Rick Perry, have you ever seen such a showboat? Brings to mind Elmer Gantry.

Republican Snippets
Palin won't run for President because there's an the off-chance she might get it and thus be saddled with responsibility and accountability, both of which she avoids like the plague.

Fascinating that the Republican Leadership Conference group hired an Obama impersonator for entertainment and laughed like crazy at the racially-specific Obama jokes, but walked the man off-stage when he began jibing at Newt Gingrich and Michelle Bachmann. Guess blackface comedians aren't funny unless they're making fun of one of their own.

Perry's nomination aspirations are based on good hair and how well he has supposedly governed Texas. The hair wins.
