Is Trump a Russian Operative?

It seems like Donald Trump is hell-bent on alienating everyone in this country, one insult at a time. But maybe Fio isn't giving him enough credit.  Maybe he's an undercover operative for the Kremlin.  Maybe he was turned when he was in Russia setting up the beauty contest and is now dedicated to undermining America.

Speaking of Russia, where has Melania disappeared to?  Her webpage has been discontinued and she seems to have dropped out of sight.  And what about Sarah Palin?  Maybe Trump's decided to move on.  After all, women are disposable in his world.

Into the Sunset

Pity poor Sarah Palin. Chris Christie got the last-minute groundswell of support to run for the Republican presidential nomination that she'd been waiting for, and then he grabbed even more headlines when he decided not to run--while Palin's decision was relegated to a back page.

In effect, she said that she'd rather be a gadfly, a well-paid, irresponsible celebrity. But Fio thinks a fear of the give and take of debate also had something to do with the decision. If the other candidates cut Perry down to size so quickly, just think what they would have done to Ms "I can see Russia from my front door."

It doesn't matter. Palin's irrelevant now. And she did it to herself.

Responsibility

Apparently after her first place finish in the Iowa straw vote, Michele Bachmann is fading fast. She understands why, of course--it's everyone else's fault. She's an independent thinker, a prophet in her own time, but her handlers reined her in, tried to smooth off her rough corners, like when they insisted she was joking when she said that bad weather was God's wrath directed at the current administration and modern mores.

Sarah Palin reacts the same way to adversity. The buck never stops with her--it's her handlers or sexism or the lamestream media.

Com'on, ladies. You're in the big leagues now. Time to man up.

Bachmann, Palin, and Perry

The Iowa straw poll has demonstrated its irrelevancy for the second electoral season in a row. Four years ago it ranked Mitt Romney at the top of Republican voter selection and John McCain tenth. This year, Michele Bachmann placed first, but Fio just doesn't think she's gonna pan out.

Speaking of not panning out, Fio notices that Sarah Palin's star is fading fast. Wonder how much she can get for that tour bus on resale? Maybe Rick Perry could buy it and travel around the country putting on tent revivals.

Speaking of Rick Perry, have you ever seen such a showboat? Brings to mind Elmer Gantry.

Republican Snippets

Palin won't run for President because there's an the off-chance she might get it and thus be saddled with responsibility and accountability, both of which she avoids like the plague.

Fascinating that the Republican Leadership Conference group hired an Obama impersonator for entertainment and laughed like crazy at the racially-specific Obama jokes, but walked the man off-stage when he began jibing at Newt Gingrich and Michelle Bachmann. Guess blackface comedians aren't funny unless they're making fun of one of their own.

Perry's nomination aspirations are based on good hair and how well he has supposedly governed Texas. The hair wins.

Who's Left on the Right?

Fiorella is fascinated by the Republican presidential nominee race. Of course, it's not much of a race with so many of the entrants either opting out or shooting themselves in the foot. She's been thinking that Palin was playing it smart, waiting for the remaining candidates to turn on each other like sharks, leaving her unscathed and ready to leap on her white horse--er, her snowmobile, I mean--and ride to the rescue However, it looks like that isn't going to happen either. A new tell-all book is coming out, written by one of her former minions, and it ain't pretty.

Maybe Harold Camping's end-of-the-world prediction applied only to her.

Fifteen MInutes?

Whatever happened to Sarah Palin? She's been amazingly quiet the past month or so. Has her time passed? Was she just brief comet that whizzed by in a shower of publicity and smashed into the sun? Has she abandoned her absurd presidential ambitions and holed up in her igloo for the duration?

Not on your life. She's got campaign advisers now, and apparently the first thing they told her was to get herself some gravitas. So she's been junketing around Israel and India for the past couple of weeks, carefully not making an ass out of herself.

Israel and India are smart choices because both countries had strong women as prime ministers, Golda Meir and Indira Gandhi. But Palin is neither Meir nor Gandhi. She's more like Lindsay Lohan.

Arizona Aftermath

Fiorella is ready to speak now, and, sadly, not about the massacre, but the aftermath.

By claiming her own victimhood, Sarah Palin is robbing the graves of the dead. The mainstream press has been quite careful about discussing whether or not "vitriolic rhetoric" influenced the situation, raising a legitimate question rather than accusing. But Palin sees everything through her own designer glasses--it's all about her. Everything is about her. And if it isn't about her, she makes it about her.

Shut up, please, and let the nation mourn in peace.

Arizona

Fiorella hasn't said anything about the Tucson massacre because she didn't know what to say. She's still in shock. The whole scenario is so bizarre, so horrific, so senseless.

But now the Westboro Baptists, the anti-Christs of the universe, are getting involved, planning to picket the funeral of the little girl who was killed. And Sarah Palin, cloaking herself in St. Ronald Reagan, is waging rhetorical war, complete with trademark hyperboles, against the concept of--well--toning DOWN the rhetoric.

Fio would rather they all be struck dumb, like she is.

TV on the Fly

Caught a few minutes of SP's Alaska--didn't realize Sarah was so sappy. Think I'll vote for Tina Fey.

Couldn't help but dwell on Sister Wives for a bit while Mr. Macho was tossing his new bride around on the sands of Waikiki. Uh--how does he pay for a Hawaiian honeymoon and, at the same time, support four other women and a gazillion children?

Between the polygamists, the Duggars, and the many women who are childless by choice (Joy Behar's show) the variety in the world's DNA is diminishing.

Little People, Big World is one of the few shows Fio watches all the way through--irascible Matt, scrappy Amy, the kids: tall Jeremy, little Zach, the girl, and the forgotten fourth child. Jacob has long been relegated to the role of tag-along, and now they're wondering why he lacks self-confidence.

Not only that, but with the two older boys growing up and leaving home, Matt and Amy are closing down the show. Maybe to divorce? That's the speculation among Fio's friends. Friend Sharon pointed out they never seem to do stuff together anymore.

Of course, they don't. Remember when Matt set up his own team for the international dwarf games, then shoved the responsibility for everything all off on Amy?

Sheer Cussedness

In a way, Sarah Palin is an inspiration. For sheer gall, she takes the cake. What does it matter that she can't get out a coherent sentence, that she's ignorant of world affairs, that she resigned her governorship in mid-term? She's still in there plugging, insisting her way is the way, that everyone else is wrong or lying, that complicated problems have simplistic solutions.

You gotta hand it to her for her never-say-die attitude. Fio does admire focus and perseverance.
