Taxes, Shelves, Strays

Fiorella finished what she could of the taxes today and sent the rest off to the CPA.  Next year it's going to be easier, with Fio's new business charge card and the file system she's setting up.

Fio and Husband are working on the shelf wall in the den now.  He doesn't know it, but the shelf wall in the living room comes next.

Neighborhood update: Gizmo, the large, fluffy friendly dog is loose again. Friend Mickey called Fio to get the name and phone number of the owner.  This may be a continuing story.

Adventure in Exploring

Fiorella's good day yesterday continued to be good, despite the fact that when she and Husband decided to walk three of their property lines, they got lost in the jungle behind the house for two hours plus, and would have been spending the night sleeping under cedars if they hadn't spotted a house through the trees and appealed for help from the nice woman who opened the door. Not only did Dana Gray invite them to rest on her front porch and give them bottles of water, but she also led them back through the forest to their own acreage, which turned out to be right behind her own spread.

Oh, and did Fio mention that Sonia had been along for the trek? Poor baby--she's still sleeping it off.

Stroll in the Sun

Fiorella will readily admit she is geographically challenged, but staggering up and down the mean streets of San Antonio in 100+ weather on her first day at the National Romance Writers of America annual conference was scary.  She had left the conference hotel with friends, gone across the street, and turned down this way and that (Fio doesn't pay attention to where she's going when she's talking).  After they all finished eating, two of her friends walked back to the conference hotel while Fio and another woman stayed at the table.  When the other woman left to visit with friends, Fio, all on her lonesome, started her trek back to her hotel. . . and couldn't find it.

So she walked around, trying other routes. The sun was hot, and she was thirsty, and she was tired.  But still she soldiered on.  What is a little dehydration and disorientation to the mighty Fiorella?  Twice she went into RiverCenter hotel instead of RiverWalk and tried to get the elevator to take her up to her sixth floor room.  And twice a nice hotel employee told her she was in the wrong hotel. The second time around, he gently took her arm and escorted her out of RiverCenter, across the street, down the side of the river, into RiverWalk, and made sure she got on the correct elevator.

Thank you, Eleazar Garza.
