TV and Me

Another good TV show bites the dust, at least as far as Fiorella is concerned. Lucifer is no longer funny, just screechy and stupid, so she's no longer watching it, just like she is no longer watching The Little Couple because in the years between when the old show went off the air and the new one debuted, Bill and Jen became so entitled that Fio doesn't care about them anymore. The only shows she's watching now are Big Bang Theory, which, even after ten years, is still amazingly fresh, funny, and human, her telenovela, the first fifteen minutes of Colbert, and an occasional 600-Pound Life.

It may be that Fio's simply bored with television. After all, she's been sitting in front of the boob tube sine she was four. In fact, her college years were the only time she was away from TV.

On the other hand, maybe it's just that Fio has finally grown up. Fiorella? Grown up? Never!

Reality and Fiction

Fiorella couldn't believe it, but she, who doesn't watch much television, had to make a hard decision last night--whether to watch her telenovela or the first show of the season of Lucifer, which were both running at 8:00, after another one of her favorites, Big Bang Theory. She ended up opting for Lucifer because it would only be on once a week while her telenovela would be on every night, but she still resented having to make a choice.

But Big Bang, Lucifer, Mi Marido Tiene Familia--all three of them ran second fiddle to how she felt about what had happened in Las Vegas. A pall of sorrow followed her all day yesterday, and even though she ended up watching the second half of her telenovela because Lucifer was just a half-hour teaser, it didn't matter because none of the shows really grabbed her. How could they? She was numb. Just like everyone else in the country was.

TV News

Fiorella is inerested in the route Big Bang Theory is taking with Amy going off to Princeton for two months, which leaves Sheldon behind in California and, according to leaks, prey to the cute redhead who went after him before. But Sheldon and Amy had sex just before she left, which Fio guesses wasn't was just a cute end to the episode. What if Amy turns up pregnant? Can you imagine Sheldon as a prospective father? As a father? As becoming a close pal with Howard as the only two fathers in the group?

La Piloto is obviously working toward its grande finale. Yolanda finally realized Oscar is not her friend when he lured her to a desolate spot and started shooting at her. Also, Colonel Santamaria is on the run because he was revealed to be part of the drug trade. And Zulima, la bruja, walked in on John (whom she had enchanted away from Yolanda) in bed with another woman, which is bad news for John. And Dave the incorruptible turned in his DEA badge and gun when he realized his bosses were part of the drug trade, which means he is now rogue in his persistance to find and protect Yolanda, whether she wants him to or not.

Lucifer is back, thank goodness, and the plot thickens. Fiorella likes the way the story is obviously working toward a resolvement instead being episode after episode of crime-solving, which was never that strong a feature anyway. Maybe Lucifer is ushering in the era of of English-language telenovelas.

One, Two, Three

Fio is ecstatic. When she went to Target to pick up the copy of Lucifer's first season she had ordered on line the night before, she encountered a young woman from Poland behind the counter who was kind enough to teach her how to say "Hello" in Polish. So, Fio's first joy was Lucifer, and her second joy was czesc. Fio's third joy was outside the store, when she realized the barriers were down on the roads and construction work to the west of Target. Not a single person was on the site so ever-curious Fiorella drove down it, noting the wide boulevard, the curbs, the unearthed rocks that she could sneak back in and pick up later, and--oops--the sudden drop-off just over the drop to the river.

It was the rule of three again.

TV People

Maybe Trump's opponents should plant someone in the audience to yell "Donald is a poopy pants," then encourage the crowd to echo it.

Again, Fio asks--has any Kardashian ever held a real job?

Speaking of TV, "Lucifer" would have a great time with the Duggars--but maybe he already has.

Two Thumbs Up

"Lucifer" is hitting its stride.  Last week's episode faltered a little--Fio didn't laugh as much--but this week's episode was right on.  Threads came together and Fio laughed and chortled all the way through at the diabolical doings.  Casting the devil--and an amoral one at that--as the hero is a hard sell, but Tom Ellis pulls it off with his devilishly wicked smile and fresh-eyed innocence.

Sweets

Why does Fiorella enjoy Big Bang Theory, Lucifer, Little Couple, and Income Property? Because they are "sweet" shows--no drama, no repercussions, no characters who are going to get their throats slit in the next scene.  Big Bang and Lucifer make Fio laugh, Little Couple gives her hope, and Income Property is always different, yet comfortably the same.

Review of Lucifer

Castle, etcetera, are cops and robbers shows with a love interest thrown in as a secondary plot. Lucifer is a romance built on a cops-and-robbers premise.

The show is sexy, edgy, and funny.  Forget the cops and robbers plots--and they've been forgettable so far--and concentrate on the relationship between the two leads, Lucifer and Chloe, a tough Hollywood cop. Lucifer is fascinated by her because she has no ulterior motive and she seem impervious to his charms, while Chloe would like him out of her life, but has discovered that he has his uses--like saving her life.

But what Fio likes best about the show is the humor.  She laughs, snickers, and giggles all the way through.

As Eclectic Does

Fio watches Big Bang Theory, Lucifer, The Little Couple, and Forensic Files.  Don't tell her she's not eclectic.

Hell or Heaven?

Regarding Lucifer, the TV show Husband and Fio have started watching, Husband thinks it will end with Lucifer returning to rule Hell with Chloe, the cop, by his side.  Fio, on the other hand, thinks Lucifer will help Chloe and her ex-husband reconcile, be redeemed, regrow his wings, and ascend to Heaven.

Which gives you a pretty good look into Fio and Husband's respective psyches..

Television, Art, and Fences

Fiorella woke up after a good night's sleep thinking that the new X-Files was ponderous, self-absorbed, and that its monster was ridiculous.  In contrast, Lucifer was light, clever, and its monster, the star. was charmingly naive and delightfully wicked.

Fio hasn't drawn anything for a while, and her hands are getting so antsy that this morning she sketched herself in the bathroom mirror.  Not bad--Fio, you've still got it

The property-line fence that Fio and neighbors Mike and Kathy have been talking about for years has finally been built. Fiorella recommended her yardman, Fernando, for the job, and neighbor Mike, who designed the fence, took over from there.  Good fences, good neighbors.
