The Wonder That Is Around Us

Hey, isn't it about time for Stormy Daniels to pop up again?
*
Please don't be mean to Fio or she will have no choice but to cast you as a villain in one of her books and, ultimately, kill you off.
*
I glance around the den, and my mother's voice lectures me from the grave about how messy it is. Obviously, she didn't write.
*
I didn't know my mother was a young woman when I was a child until, as an adult, I saw a photo of her with me in her lap.
*
It's nice to have great gobs of hair
Because then there'll be some hair to spare
When I get old and start to shed
To warm my head when I am dead

Contemplations

The way Fio sees it, her fire comes from her mother's family, and her steadfastness comes from her father's family.
*
Fiorella has no control over anything or anyone, and sometimes she even loses control of herself.
*
Not until this year has Fio realized how many bad people there are in the world. In fact, they seem to be in the majority.
*
Is there even one woman on TV who is wearing her real hair color?
*
Leaving, my dear, is not what I do
Instead, my dear, I stick like glue

Downers

Nothing like opening up the morning with four loads of laundry that Fio brought home from Husband's rehab hospital, son still in bed with a migraine, and a computer that refuses to perform,
*
The cast iron plants that Fiorella spent hours planting--and replanting--are looking sallow, and an armadillo has been tearing up the planting bed and the lawn. We'll have to get out the trap again.
*
Fio cleaned out under the couch and found six pens and seven rawhide dog bones, but not the credit card she was looking for.
*
Estella was killed off in La Piloto. Everyone but the bad guys are getting killed off. Mena is probably next.
*
Fio's hair refuses to behave. She looks awful.

Older

Fiorella is officially an old lady, but that's better than being a dead old lady. To prove her maturity, she wears the universal pendant of old age, a personal alarm button.  (Truth to tell, the major reason is that she might take a fall or encounter a rattler or  copperhead the hard way while she is exploring the wildwoods.)
*
There should probably be an upper age limit for drivers, but then how could older people get around to buy clothes and groceries, visit with friends, and attend doctor appointments?
*
This topic is depressing. Fio needs her hair done, some botox, a photofacial, and a pedicure to cheer her up.

Donald, Donald, Donald

Donald Trump is trying to buy the presidency, and everyone knows it's for sale, that the candidate with the bigger war chest wins.  Why else is Fio's email inbox overflowing with pleas for donations?
*
The one good thing Fiorella can say about The Donald is that he's running on his own dime.  But that also means he doesn't have to answer to anybody.  Yes, he's free to bash anybody he wants to--and he does. Brown people, women people, hero people.
*
A lot of people comment about his hair, but Fio is more concerned about what doesn't lie under it.

Crowded Life

Fio is making a list of the things she wants to do once she turns the book in.  Like walking the dog again, like getting a photofacial, a perm, and highlighting.  Like working a jigsaw puzzle, fixing up her so-called office, shopping for new shoes.  Like painting a little.

Like starting on a new book.

Apres Shampoo

My hair grows lank and limp
My hair grows quick and thick
I fix it with a blast of spray
And pray that it will stay that way

Hair's to Ya

My hair is thick and lank
And fine and fly-away
I'd look like a drowned rat
But hairspray saves the day

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

According to Hollywood, tattoos and light beards are in, but hairy chests are out. In fact, except for minimal underarm shadows, men are as hairless below the neck as the day they were born. Romance covers, of course, follow the trend. And, going by the photos certain authors post on FaceBook, male models are also bathing in olive oil.

As usual, Fiorella is counter-culture. Jase, her hero in Princess of Bosque Bend aka Honeysuckle Dreams, now Kinkaid House, is a big, hulking Esau.  Enjoy!
