Living Dangerously but Eating Well
Happy birthday to Fio--again. Later today, her brother and sister-in-law are taking her and Husband out to Frisco, one of Fiorella's favorite restaurants. It's an old-time Austin thing, a family tradition. Not only did Husband's parents know the original owner, but Husband and Fiorella took their kids there regularly when they were growing up. The hamburger steaks are the best, and the chocolate ice box pie is out of this world. Fio will probably end up with a late-night GERD attack, but it will be worth it.

Hard Luck Story
Fiorella and Husband are going through a bad stretch. First her credit card was hacked, which meant she had to cut it up and has to wait for a new one to be mailed to her. Then she lost her key ring, which meant she couldn't start her car and didn't have a house key. Then, despite the fact that Fiorella bought a new car key and had it entered into the Mazda system, her baby car conked out again after bringing her and Husband home from dinner. At the same time, not only did Husband lose the keys to the loaner car he was using because his car was in the shop getting a damaged rear view mirror replaced, but he forgot to bring his charge card to the restaurant.
Husband paid cash for our dinner, and we did make it home from the restaurant safely, which is when Fio's car went out. Husband has found his credit card and his missing keys, but your Fio still lacks a house key and a usable vehicle.
And she wonders why it takes her so long to grind out a book.

Tipping
Fiorella's standard restaurant tip is twenty percent, but she has been known to give a five dollar tip on a four-dollar dessert or a nine dollar meal--if the service was outstanding. Yesterday evening's service wasn't. The waitress brought Husband's and Minnesota Son's food to the table, then realized Fiorella's order had been filled incorrectly and took it back to the kitchen. After she left, we noticed that one of the side orders had been left off both Son's plate and Husband's plate. Then, when Fio finally got her plate, the salmon, although quite good, was barely warm. Also, the waitress did not bring lemon slices.
In fact, the situation was such a mess that a manager came out, blamed the problem on the kitchen, and gave us key lime pies on the house.
But Fio doesn't think the kitchen had anything to do with the foul-up. She thinks management was covering for the waitress so Fio wouldn't dock her tip.
But Fio did, to just below ten percent. And that was generous.
