Fiorella has come to terms with "amazing" and "awesome," although they drove her out of her mind at first. Everyone was using them, especially the vocabulary-challenged home-buyers on HGTV. Everything from floors to ceilings to swimming pools to kitchens to toilets were amazing or awesome. So were beauty-contest winners, actors, politicians, children, pets and God.
But, as a linguist, Fiorella knows that superlatives and emphatics come and go, and many don't even make sense--like "pretty" being used to mean "very"--so she decided to make her peace with the newcomers.
Amazing, right?

Catching You Up on El Color de la Pasion
Fiorella doubled down on el espanol yesterday. Or rather, tripled down. During the afternoon, she posted two pages of verb tenses for ser ("to be") on the wall above her desk. Later, about twenty minutes before El Color de la Pasion came on, she played with Duolingo on her phone. Then she topped the evening off by watching the telenovela. All the prep work was worth it--not that there's anything subtle going on, but Fio caught a few more words and phrases. To bring you up to date, Tia (Aunt) Rebeca, the villainess, has been tossed out of her luxurious casa (home) by sweet Lucia, who turned into a spitfire when she learned that Rebeca, out of jealousy, had shoved her older sister, Lucia's mother, over the balcony when Lucia was a baby. Then Daniela, who is embarazada (pregnant) broke it to Milagros, who had tried to set up an assignation between her and her son Marcelo, that Marcelo was not the father of the child. The hour ended as Brigita, who had put her homeless friend Rebeca up for the night, walked into the guest bedroom to witness her despicable husband, Amador, groping and kissing a struggling Rebeca.
And those were just the highlights.
And those were just the highlights.

Self-realization
As if a ton of rocks were dumped on her head, Fiorella has again been reminded of how different she is. How--well--weird. If you've been reading Fio's blog for any length of time, you've probably come to the same conclusion.
Basically, the problem is, as Fio's mother once told her, "You think too much." Yes, Fio's mind munches on everything in the meadow. She theorizes about past times, even prehistoric times, and she wonders about the future. She is not content just to live her life, but also wants to understand it. In fact, she wants to understand everything.
And she wants to do everything too. She wants to paint and draw and to sing and compose music and to write poetry and short stories and novels. She wants to design and sew and crochet and embroider. She wants her house and yard to look spectacular. And, although it's way too late, she'd like to become proficient in some of the languages she's dabbled in through the years: Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Telugu, Hindi, and Mandarin (Latin and Sanskrit being optional).
Yes, Fiorella is certifiable.

Yelp-Bark-Grrrr!
Sonia Dog has six basic needs: love and treats, food and water, to go out and to come in. But lately she's been expressing a seventh need--language. Yes, our doggie has been expanding her vocabulary of yelps, bark, and growls so as to communicate with us better. Will let you know when she writes a romance.
