Trump, Trump, Trump

The United States is being invaded by Russia at the highest level, and all that Donald Trump talks about is the Mexicans who are sneaking across the border to clean our houses, mow our lawns, and produce children who make straight A's in school.
*
According to recent outbursts from Trump Tower, the infamous wall will not be paid for by Mexico after all, at least not for a while. In the meantime, Trump proposes that our tax dollars fund it--because, of course, we're all running around with a couple of million rattling around in our pockets that we don't have any other use for.
*
Hasn't anyone caught onto Trump's delaying tactic? He's wiggled out of several lawsuits by wearing litigants out by delays; he kept saying he'd release his tax forms, then put it off till everyone forgot about it; and now he's put off telling us what his "secret" information about the Russian hacking is. How long will he keep getting away with this?

Holiday Schedule

Fiorella assured Husband she would have all the Christmas decorations done by the end of the week.  Then she lost yesterday to his medical procedure and a fall she took while she was trying to get up on an outside chair--one of those heavy wrought iron things--to rehang the plastic snowflakes that had fallen off a misshapen little front-yard tree. She hit the back of her head on the ground and twisted her right foot. The head seems to be okay, but the arch of Fio's foot is so swollen that she's holding onto whatever's handy as she limps around the house.  No ladder-climbing for her for a while.

Sigh.  Looks like the decorations are going to be the usual count-down to the wire.

Power Play

Fio has conquered the office bitch, the one who delayed her appointments and blamed it on the insurance carrier.  And Fio did it through the use of the greatest power in the world--knowledge.

Fio didn't argue with the woman.  Instead, Fio side-stepped her and called the insurance company herself.  She called twice, in fact, to confirm that her treatment was authorized and that the insurance would pay for it.  But when she contacted the OB, the woman told her she would have to wait an extra week for the treatment to allow ninety days to pass since her last visit.  Fio got out her calendar and realized that those ninety days would indeed have passed by the date of the appointment she was trying to set.

Fiorella got her appointment when she wanted it.

Knowledge is power.

A Trip that Was Not to Be

Fio realizes nothing happened, but to her it was tumultuous. The cancellation of her trip to Ontario for Nicole's memorial concert in Ontario, that is. Yes, after sitting on the tarmac for three hours, Fio de-planed and called Husband to come get her.

It wasn't American Airlines' fault that rainstorms were hovering over Dallas, where Fio would change planes for first leg of her journey. The captain kept the cabin informed, the attendants were circumspect in their care of passengers, and when the rains wouldn't let up and Fio finally decided enough was enough, everyone went overboard to be helpful. Fio gives the people at AA an A+.

But she'd already missed her connection to the second leg of her trip, and no matter what sort of adjustments could be made, there was no way she could reach Ontario by 4:00, when the concert began, or even by 6:00, when it ended. And if she missed the concert, she'd have a real problem hooking up with Claudine, Nicole's daughter, at whose home she was going to spend the night.

Besides, her arthritic hip couldn't take much more, and her claustrophobia was kicking into high gear. And the two men in the seats in front of her who had been discussing business for the past three hours were driving her crazy. And what was she going to do on the flight from Dallas to Ontario without a crossword puzzle book, which she'd forgotten to buy? (That Evanovitch novel she'd picked up, number seventeen, wasn't cutting it--everyone knows ol' Janet should have folded up her tents at number six.)

Anyway, Fiorella took advantage of the captain's offer to jump ship, as per FAA's regulations, came home, collapsed on the couch, and slept for three hours. Despite the fact that she had looked forward to this trip for two months, had planned it meticulously, had poured money, energy, and time into it, de-planing was the right decision. The time and effort are gone, but she recovered her airfare and had an unexpected day and a half to work on her book revisions.

And she has a passport now, which opens her horizons to the world.
