Calves are born into a world of sweet grass, warm milk, and bovine devotion. We protect them form predators, inoculate them against diseases, and supply nutrients necessary to their well-being. Then, when they're at their prime, we kill them and eat them.
We die, our bodies nourish the earth, the earth grows grass to feed the cows, and the cycle starts all over again. We are all fodder.

Random Observations
The winter calves are dotting the pasture now, little dabs of orange and white lying in the grass beside their mothers.

Men write with their gonads. Women write with their hearts. Men write sex as porn. Women write sex as romance.
*
The cedars along the road leading to the Gucci HEB are in full holiday bloom now, their branches laden with ornaments and tinsel garlands.
*
Fiorella is always singing in her head, even if her vocal chords are not cooperating. Fa-la-la-la-la-- la-la-la-la.

Round Up
This is so exciting! We had cow patties on our driveway!
We also had a note on our door asking us to call if we spotted two runaway calves, but the babies were long gone by then. Fiorella was disappointed not to have seen the calves up close, but when she and Husband were coming home from grocery shopping, there they were, being tended to by neighbor till their owner claimed them.
Only in the boondocks.

Boondock Activity
Pepe le Pew has been visiting Fio's neck of the woods a lot lately. It seems like every time she steps outside her front door, she's been greeted by the odiferous evidence of his presence. Must be getting near mating season.
*
Speaking of the seasons, Fio loves to watch the new calves capering around while their mothers lie in the grass, soaking up the sun. The babies literally kick up their heels.
*
Fiorella has gotten more energetic lately too. In fact, yesterday afternoon she spent a couple of hours hauling away the cedar that Husband had chainsawed. It's all in a huge pile in front of the house now. Anyone want to cart it to the dump for her?
