Enlightenment

Fio woke up with the thought that cashiering 15,000 transgenders from the armed forces would not only result in job turmoil within the ranks, but also up the unemployment rates and strain veteran resources.
On the other hand, the fiat took our minds off things like the Russian scandal and the Scaramucci scandal and the Secret-Service-being-kicked-out-of-Trump-Tower scandal and the leaked incoherent telephone calls to foreign leaders and the almost daily nonsense/horror that flows from the 3:00 am Trump White House.

Later, she watched the afternoon press conference, and realized our loser-of-the-popular-vote president has fallen off his rocker. Trump Tower is crumbling to the ground, and Putin is rolling on the floor with laughter.

Re Lanza's Mother--Not

Well--it turns out journalist Liza Long is NOT Adam Lanza's mother.  Lanza's mother was even nuttier than he was, a righter-than-right-wing survivalist who fantasized an economic apocalypse which she was going to survive by killing anything that moved, to wit her obscene collection of weapons.

Fio supports the Second Amendment, but draws the line at a private arsenal.

Doomsday Postponed . . . Again

So, the day of doom has come and gone--again. Camping has decamped,I hear, nowhere to be found. But being 89, maybe he was the only one claimed, and Fiorella doesn't think it was by God.

Fio remembers her first encounter with an end of the world prophecy, when she was in elementary. The Branch Davidians were the source, and they were sure enough of Rapture that they withdrew all their kids, easily identifiable because they dressed oddly, from school. The sky was overcast and threatening as Fio trudged home from classes on the designated day, but nothing happened, not even rain. Nothing ever does. Amazing how religious zealots choose to ignore the Biblical admonition that no one will know the day or time of the Apocalypse.

Three years later, the Davidian kids were back in school and dressed normally. They'd gone Baptist in the meantime.
