If you have a collection of plastic pill bottles you want to go to a worthy cause, consider Matthew 5 Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242. Used eyeglasses can be sent to New Eyes, 549 Milburn Avenue, P.O. Box 332, Short Hills, New Jersey 07078. Fio's just sent her boxes off and hopes you will consider doing the same.
Speaking of glasses, Fiorella has two new pairs. The way glasses disappear on her, she always has to have a back-up. She's convinced that when she gets heaven, all the lost glasses will come tottering toward her in a single accustory line.
But Fio, you say, why don't you get contacts or have your eyes lasered? Because I have permanent lenses by way of a cataract operation, Fio answers, and anyway, I think eyeglasses make my squinchy eyes look bigger and more limpid. Don't you?
Do you have graduated lenses, you further inquire? No, I tried those a couple of years ago and they didn't work at all. The optician said it was because my nose wasn't the right shape, which I've always thought was hilarious--and unique.
Besides, it's not as if Fio wears her glasses all the time--just to drive or watch TV. Otherwise, she fling them wherever they land. Oops--maybe that's the problem.

Progress
Husband is home from the hospital to stay, and we picked up his car from the body shop this afternoon, which are two giant steps forward. Now if we can just find his wallet and two pairs of my glasses, which have been missing for about a week. Wish us well.

Odds and Ends
Fio's credit card and Husband's driving glasses are off somewhere together having a good time. We can't find either of them.

If Starbucks gets any healthier, I'm not meeting anyone there any more.

The more wealth a person has, the more people he has to hire to take care of it.

The hands, the feet, the eyes, the ears--driving is like playing the piano.

The older women used to be the ones in dresses while the younger generation wore pants. Now it's reversed: the older women are in pants and the young'ns are wearing dresses.

Mal Voyage
Fiorella doesn't like traveling.
She doesn't like the pain and exhaustion caused by hauling around an overloaded suitcase on which she has incorrectly piled a heavy portfolio. She doesn't like going insane on a a three-hour flight because the terminal vendors don't carry crossword puzzle books anymore. She doesn't like her prepaid car not showing up at the NJ airport curb. She doesn't like not being able to find her hotel room and being so exhausted that she has to sit down in the hall and lean her back against the wall to rest. She doesn't like having to live out of her suitcase for two days because the carpet in said room was soggy and it took a whole day for a second room to be available. She doesn't like her prepaid car to JFK never materializing. She doesn't like being scheduled with such a short time (an hour) between her arrival at DFW and the flight to Austin that, despite the Sky Lift, the doors were closed when she got to the terminal.
Oh, and she lost her glasses.

Lost and Found
One or another of Fiorella's eight pairs of glasses is always lost, which is the reason she has so many of them--three for distance viewing with her current prescription, two distance models with her old prescription, one up-close anti-astigmatism type for playing the piano or reading, and two pairs of cheapo non-prescription sunglasses. Right now she's looking for her prescription sunglasses. They've been missing for two weeks now, but Fio still has hope. After all, yesterday Husband found her notes for a review of Georgetown Palace's production of Cats that had inexplicably disappeared on their way home from the theater.

Meteorite
Sarah Palin was pretty, but she wore glasses, which indicated she was serious, a person to be reckoned with. Sure, her family was dysfunctional, but whose isn't? She was charismatic, attracting a faithful following, and even when she screwed up the facts, she was articulate. Yes, she went her own way and stuck to her guns, no matter how mis-aimed.
And now she's nothing but an irrelevant historical note, another wannabe who crashed and burned..
