How Does Your Garden Grow
At Voltaire's urging, Fio is tending her own garden again, but this time she's planting it with thistles and dragonsteeth, nettles and bloodwort. For what is right, she will fight.

Garden Update
With the state of the world being what it is, Fio heeds Voltaire's advice and tends her own garden with a vengeance. Yesterday was the allowed watering day for the odd-numbered side of the street so she and Husband spent their evening nourishing the planting beds. He wielded the hose in the west beds while she took care of the large, sun-baked north bed.
Ironically, the plants seem to be doing better currently than when they were being watered three times a week by the now-verboten in-ground system. Husband's mulching is part of the reason, Fio thinks, but it's also that the beds are now receiving daily life support, thanks to milk bottle storage and the bath water gizmo.
The world may still a mess, but Fiorella's garden is doing quite well, thank you.

Keep on Truckin'
The world is a terrible place, full of injustice and violence, but it's hard to metaphorically tend one's own garden, as Voltaire and Fiorella advise, when one's actual garden is a disaster. That expensive landscaping, which was supposed to be healthy and blooming this year, is definitely a wreck in progress.
The freezes last winter, the drought and high temperatures this spring, the deer and armadillos--they've all taken their toll. Fio and husband are out almost every evening (it's too hot to go out during the day) doing what they can, but nature turns the tide.
And August is yet to come.
