Great Day!
Fio had a wonderful day yesterday. She rushed around after she got up, took care of the house, then spent a good hour outside laying in the last of the rocks on the south side of the south driveway. which gave her an enormous sense of accomplishment. Then she drove off to Dan's South in Austin for a late lunch with friend Joan, whom she met in a short story class, lo these many moons ago. They laughed a lot, updated each other on their lives, and shared their concerns about the new political scene. Fio drove home in a good mood and helped Husband split logs for the fireplace, than checked out Facebook. Two supporting messages, no attacks. Apparently GH has moved on--or maybe flown off to DC for the inauguration.

Hurry, Hurry, Hurry
Too much to do, too little time in which to do it.
Fiorella's been working every minute since she got home from the conference, not even pausing to watch Big Bang, and she had a minor breakdown last night when she learned the joint birthday celebration she and daughter had planned would have to be rescheduled, which means that Fio will miss Friend Ashley's one-year-old's birthday party. Fio has already missed last Sunday's dog training session and the Palace Theater's production of the Will Rogers Follies because she was thinking the writers' conference ended on Friday rather than Saturday, and she has to work out a medical appointment conflict. In the meantime, she's supposed to be gathering documentation for a lawsuit and figuring out how to pre-publicize her book and writing, writing, writing.
At least, although it took hours to pull the separate chapters together and format them, Fio got two of her other oeuvres off to the divine Liza. And she's caught up on the newspapers. And she's unpacked and done her laundry. And she made it to the pre-set meeting with Friend Joan in south Austin. And she wrote out her biography for the Georgetown Library writing classes she rashly agreed to teach.
And despite not having any Neosporin with her in Atlanta, her wounds are healing well, even the emotional ones.

The Great Shredded Wheat Quest
You already know that when HEB stopped carrying Fio's favorite breakfast cereal, Post's Original Spoon-size Shredded Wheat, Fiorella started making regular visits to Target to stock up on her early-morning crack, and she would buy at least four boxes at a time to be sure she didn't run out. (Thus are hoarders born, but that's another story.) However, when Fio got down to her last box two days ago and Husband tried to replenish the pantry, the shelf at Target was bare.
Panic set in. If neither HEB nor Target carried Fio's cereal, did that mean Post had stopped making it? Would Fiorella have to switch off to Cheerios? Thus when she drove into Austin the next day to meet Friend Joan, her secondary goal was to scout out a supermarket that might still have a couple of orphan boxes of said Shredded Wheat on its shelves. But HEB drove driven out Albertson's and Randall's years ago so what was left?
WALMART!
With breath bated, Fio entered WalMart's door, found the breakfast cereal aisle, and walked slowly down it, searching for the familiar bright red boxes. No luck, no luck, no luck. . . .Was her quest to be in vain? Would she be deprived of Spoon-size Shredded Wheat forevermore? But no! Here the boxes were, at the end of the aisle! Up high, of course, where they always are, but Fio is skilled at establishing a toehold on the bottom shelf and stretching her fingers to tip the boxes off the top shelf onto the floor. She snagged five whole boxes, and would have grabbed the remaining two if God had just given her longer arms or two more inches in height.
Glowing with triumph, Fio drove home. Yes, once again, the efforts of Fiorella Plum had saved the universe. She lugged her paper bag (which cost 10c because the WalMart was in Austin) into the house, dumped the boxes on the kitchen island, and arranged them with military precision so the household males could gaze at her with respect and awe, .But Fio had to take off for ARWA as Husband came in and before Son arrived. When she returned at about ten, Husband was in bed, but Son awaited her with a sly smile.
"Count your boxes," he said.
Fio complied and discovered that what had been five was now seven.
Son's smile broadened. "I stopped by Target and they'd restocked."
What a relief! Fio gets tired of continually having to save the universe.

Whew!
Fiorella's happy. Yesterday she finished typing in the thirteen pages of HONEYSUCKLE DREAMS that her laptop had gobbled up on Sunday, finished her umpteenth edit of the book, ran a copy of it off for Georgetown friend Suzy, and sent an email attachment of it to Bastrop friend Joan. The addition of three new threads--crystal meth, possible pregnancy, and a Hollywood star--have swelled the wordage to almost 95,000 words so Fio hopes Suzy and Joan will still be her friends after they've hefted the manuscript.
So now Fio has to figure out how to use Dropbox or something similar to avoid another near-disaster like the thirteen digested pages, and she has to catch up with everything else she put off while she was devoting all her time to HD. Little things--like figuring income taxes.

Eclectic Snippets
Like Dolly, Fiorella's back in town. Not that she was actually gone, just knocked off the internet till about noon today, which drove her crazy. No Google news, no e-mail, no blogging. For someone who calls herself a Luddite, Fio is mighty computer-dependent.
*
Looking at the pictures Son took of her, Fio realizes she doesn't really look as good as she thinks she does. But then, she never did.
*
Between the elections and the Longhorns, Fio's going to retreat into her snail shell for the duration.
*
What would Fio do without friends? Tomorrow she's going to have lunch with Joan, and last week she lunched with Sharon. Last night she wrote a long email to Suzy in England to bring her up to date. Paula has stood by her for years. Katie, Janece, and Jane have cheered on her literary aspirations, and Marion even read an early copy of P of BB. Fio's sure to have left someone important out so please forgive her because she loves you all.
