Fiorella asks again--have we become a nation of sexual voyeurs? Why must we know all the details, stroke by stroke, of other people's sexual experiences?  Why is it that the Hastert scandal, the Duggar scandal, and the Jenner thing are today's biggest "news " stories?  Why is Fifty Shades a best seller?  Why are "mainstream" movies on the edge of pornographic?

The Duggars don't seem to understand.  There isn't anything Jim Bob and Michelle can say to regain their places in the sun/limelight, and it isn't just Josh.  Like every long-running TV show, the time has come for them to fold their tents and fade away.

One last question--why is Bruce such a "hero" for turning himself into Caitlyn when his action is an act of pure self-indulgence?  Hmm--is Kris running the show?

Delusions

Tapping the Fifty Shades keg, a woman named Virginia Roberts has accused Britain's Prince Andrew and retired Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz of carting her underage bod off to a series of exotic locations for three years for their own--uh--use.  In the twenty-four pages of her supposed diary, she throws around terms like "sex slave,"  "servitude," and "statutory rape," but never turns down the money, the gifts, the trips, or the lifestyle.

What is it about certain women that their fevered imaginations provide them with secret, glamorous lives in they are adored and--uh--used by famous, powerful men?  The most extreme example Fio ever heard of--on a local TV channel years ago--was a woman who detailed fifteen years of being mailed around from place to place to service the "Illuminati"--which Alex Jones, another delusionist, will tell you is headed by George H. W. Bush.

Maybe, aside from trying to clean up with a lawsuit or the threat of one, some women need to feel they are so highly valued because of their sexuality that great and powerful men will want to enslave them.  It probably has something to do with self-worth being tied in with body image.

Salvation Through Sadism.

You've heard Fio sound forth on this issue before, and now you'll hear her again.  She will never write a "romance" like Fifty Shades of Grey, no matter how much money it would pull in, because she thinks the book sets up a bad role model for impressionable women--i.e., all of us.  It's way too inviting to give up one's personal independence to a man who values you so much that he wants to own you, especially if that man is young, handsome, and rich, rich, rich--and it's thrilling to think that one can "heal him" by doing whatever he wants you to.

But sadists do not heal through acting out--they only get worse.  

Unlax, Fiorella, it's just a book of fiction, you say.  But, Fiorella replies, we model our lives and our values on the basis of fiction, which is why Fio's current book is anti-BDSM.  In fact, your faithful correspondent has been known to refer to WHERE THE HEART LEADS as her "up yours" to Fifty Shades--a position, she understands, that is quite familiar to Anastasia Steele.
